This lovely lime-green peridot from the Mansehra District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, is a striking example of gem-quality olivine, a silicate mineral with the formula (Mg, Fe)₂SiO₄. The crystal’s lovely green color is due to the presence of iron within its structure.

While the specimen exhibits a significant area of damage on the back side, it retains much of its sharp form, with crisp edges and a finely textured surface that highlights its natural beauty. Such damage is not uncommon in larger peridot crystals, especially from this locality, and the piece’s overall presence and aesthetics remain compelling.

Peridot typically forms in silica-deficient environments, such as volcanic basalt, and, more rarely, pallasite meteorites. Weighing 82 grams and measuring 5 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm, this small cabinet specimen embodies the essence of excellent Pakistani peridot, featuring a nice color and shape. Despite its imperfection, it remains a desirable and visually engaging piece for collectors of fine minerals.
