Peridot is the gem variety of olivine, a magnesium-iron silicate formed deep within the Earth’s mantle and carried upward through geological activity. Because of this origin, well-shaped, transparent crystals are uncommon, and collectors especially appreciate specimens that show both clarity and natural form.
This attractive crystal from Sapat Gali displays a distinctive double-crystal formation, with a second crystal growing attached along the side of the main prism. The geometry gives the piece a sculptural presence, almost like a natural twin tower, and makes it very interesting to observe from different angles. The crystal faces are bright and reflective, showing a pleasing luster and allowing light to pass through the body with a soft, glowing effect.
Color is particularly appealing here, shifting between fresh lime green and slightly deeper olive tones depending on the lighting. Internally, fine acicular strands of ludwigite can be seen suspended inside the peridot. These delicate needle-like inclusions create natural patterns within the crystal and add personality and individuality rather than distraction.
The Sapat Gali locality has long been regarded as a classic source of fine peridot crystals, producing some of the most vibrant and transparent examples. With its attractive color, rare ludwigite inclusions, and unusual double crystal growth, this specimen is both visually engaging and geologically fascinating, a charming and collectible example of peridot.
