Red Beryl

Red beryl, also known as bixbite, is one of the rarest and most valuable members of the beryl family. Its intense crimson to raspberry-red color comes from trace amounts of manganese, creating a vibrancy unmatched by any other beryl variety. Crystals are typically small but form as sharp hexagonal prisms with bright vitreous luster and striking transparency when gemmy. Unlike emerald or aquamarine, fine red beryl is extremely scarce, with gem-quality material found almost exclusively in the Wah Wah Mountains of Utah, USA. Additional minor occurrences have been reported in New Mexico and Mexico, but none rival the richness of Utah specimens. Due to its rarity, intense color, and extreme desirability, red beryl is considered a true collector’s treasure and one of the most sought-after gem minerals in the world.
