Anatase
Anatase, a natural form of titanium dioxide, is well known for its sharp dipyramidal crystals and striking luster. While it can occur in colors ranging from brown to red and green, and even the rare colorless variety, it is most often found in rich black tones, sometimes displaying a subtle blue sheen. Collectors appreciate its sharp terminations, horizontal striations, and the occasional appearance of rare X-shaped penetration twins. The specimens from the Kharan District of Balochistan, Pakistan, are especially admired, frequently associated with quartz, chlorite-included quartz, brookite, and adularia, creating highly aesthetic combinations. Though anatase is also recognized from classic Alpine localities in France and Switzerland, as well as from Norway, Russia, and Brazil, the examples from Kharan stand out for their bold crystal habit and striking visual presence, making them a valued addition to any collection.
