Spodumene

Spodumene is a lithium aluminum silicate mineral admired for its impressive crystal size, sharp formations, and wide range of colors. It occurs in three main varieties, each distinct and desirable. Kunzite is the pink to violet variety, colored by manganese, and is well known for its strong pleochroism that shows alternating shades when viewed from different angles. Hiddenite is the green variety, colored by chromium, and is much rarer, often displaying vivid emerald-like hues. Triphane is the yellow to golden variety, offering warm tones that contrast beautifully with the more fabulous shades of kunzite and hiddenite. Afghanistan is considered one of the world’s premier sources of spodumene, producing exceptional crystals of all three varieties. These specimens are admired for their clarity, intense luster, and striking colors, with many occurring in large, well-terminated crystals. Whether soft pinks, rich greens, or golden yellows, spodumene from Afghanistan stands out as both a gemological treasure and a mineralogical highlight, making it a centerpiece addition to any fine collection.
