Tanzanite
Tanzanite is a highly prized variety of zoisite, found only in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. It is admired for its vivid pleochroism, showing deep blue, violet, and sometimes flashes of burgundy depending on the viewing angle. This unique optical effect, combined with its intense colors, sets tanzanite apart from most other gemstones. Most specimens display a rich blue to violet hue, often enhanced by gentle heat treatment that brings out their finest shades. Crystals are typically prismatic, with sharp terminations and excellent transparency, and they sometimes occur on a contrasting white matrix, which enhances their brilliance and luster. Due to its single-source origin, rarity, and striking beauty, tanzanite has become one of the most sought-after gemstones worldwide, making it a true treasure of East Africa.
