Boleite is an extremely rare halide mineral that has almost exclusively been found in the type locality Boleo in Mexico and comes as indigo blue cubes on matrix or in this case as a floater crystal. The 6.5 mm on edge cube is lustrous blue with gemmy patches. Most special however ist the tetrahedral cumengeite that is set on each of the six square faces. Cumengeite, another halite, is also exclusive to Boleo but is even much rarer. The combination of those two species is equally stunning and classic. A specimen that could only come from this legendary locale! The composition is very well defined and in best condition. Best thing to do if you hold this piece in hands is to grab a loupe and have a very close look on the shiny surface, the distinct crystallization and the green side mineral – probably atacamite – that surrounds the tetrahedral cumengeite. Really a fantastic little specimen if you have a sympathy for rarities!
