A truly eye-catching elbaite, this crystal features striking variegated color zoning and immediately stands out for both its beauty and presence. In hand, the colors appear even more vivid and nuanced, beginning with a rich, slightly wine-toned red termination that carries a gentle translucency. This transitions seamlessly into a soft blush-pink zone, followed by a luminous mint-to-bluish-green core that gives the crystal a refreshing, almost glowing effect. Toward the lower section, the color intensifies into a deeper, grassy-to-olive green, with subtle variations that create a sense of depth and internal movement. The transitions are smooth yet clearly defined, forming natural horizontal bands that enhance the piece’s layered character. The interplay between the warmer upper tones and the cooler green core creates a beautifully balanced and visually engaging contrast.
The crystal is well-formed, with a classic elongated prismatic habit and strong vertical striations running cleanly along its length. The termination is sharp and well-preserved, giving the piece a refined, complete look. Its translucency allows light to pass through the crystal, illuminating the internal zoning and enriching the overall color display. It stands beautifully on its own as a single crystal, with a balanced presence and strong display quality from every angle. Pieces of this style from Paprok Valley are highly sought after, and this example captures the area’s character exceptionally well. Tourmaline belongs to a complex group of closely related mineral species, known for their wide range of colors. The name comes from the Sinhala word “tourmali”, historically used for mixed colored gemstones.
